Developing Media Concepts That Sizzle

Overview

The Emmy-Award winning director and founder of NorthRidge Productions (NRP) had “potential” television projects in development and was looking for an advisor/ development producer to work on R&D and creative. PMM was recruited because of our knowledge of the entertainment market and TV trends. Our role started with script analysis and evolved into developing proposals, and pitching to TV and streaming executives. We’ve worked on multiple projects with NRP but the last two stand out.

Our Approach

Treat each new TV concept project like a media startup, with its unique business plan and creative & management team.

Spotting the potential and seeing the possibilities are key, while also evaluating commercial viability. We met with network program executives to understand their current needs and identify growth opportunities. We performed analysis of network and streamers program pipelines when available to make the case for our concept and approach.

We developed stories that are character driven and developed complex characters and placed them in unusual settings – be it in a pole dancing studio in the bowels of a busy city (Body & Pole) or a rundown broadcast TV studio on the outskirts of society (LCJB).

We partnered with successful production facilities who are known for commercial work and television series and together developed the style and tone of the series. We tested approaches in the studios and on locations. For LCJB, we set up casting calls and scheduled a multiple day, multi-camera shoot to create a proof of concept video demo.

The Results: Pitching + Taking the Series to the Market

With positive feedback received from industry colleagues, the team further developed the visual design and storyline for both properties. Armed with a full series bible, sample scripts, and video SIZZLES, we took our development materials to the TV and streaming executives and potential co-production partners. NorthRidge Productions received positive feedback in the marketplace, several call backs and developed important relationships with leading studios. The work and pitching is ongoing.
